About Allison Zmuda & Bena Kallick
Allison has spent nearly two decades as a full-time education consultant specializing in curriculum, assessment, and instruction. She works with her clients to imagine learning experiences worthy of the pursuit for both students and educators, designing work that’s relevant, meaningful, challenging, and appropriate. Bena Kallick is a private consultant providing services to school districts, state departments of education, professional organizations, and public agencies throughout the United States and internationally.
Allison and Bena Co-authored the book: Students at the Center: Personalized Learning and Habits of Mind (ASCD).

Personalized Learning: What It Is and Why It Matters
In this Learning Path, Allison and Bena share their passion for personalized learning and the urgency for the power of this approach to prepare students for the uncertainties and challenges they will face for college, career, and life. Participants will acquire information about personalized learning, understand how students can become self-directed when personalized learning is connected with Habits of Mind, and reflect on the process of personalizing learning and Habits of Mind and explore how it can be combined with Habits of Mind to create powerful teacher-student partnerships.
The Four Filters for Personalizing Learning: Voice, Co-Creation, Social Construction, Self-Discovery
In this Learning Path, Bena and Allison provide a set of filters to examine and grow practices to personalize learning. The filters encourage learning partnerships with students as they progressively move toward becoming more self-directed in their learning. Participants will acquire information about the filters: voice, co-creation, social construction, and self-discovery, assess where they are in their practices as related to the filters, and learn strategies for strengthening practices through the use of the filters
Growing Personalized Learning in Your Practice
In this path we consider how to personalize through strategies for self-regulation, building relationships, and focusing on time management. Participants will explore the metaphor of the personalized learning slider in your own practice by reflecting on examples where students engage in more self-direction,
learn strategies to build relationships for personalized learning, and explore a variety of tools for self-management.
Personalized Learning: What Students Need to Work Through Challenges
Authors Allison Zmuda and Bena Kallick will continue to use the metaphor of the soundboard to develop student capacity to better understand themselves and each other as learners. In order for students to become more active in navigating their learning, teachers need to know their students well and students need to know one another and honor each others’ strengths to create a safe space for thinking and imagining.
Personalized Learning: A Culture of Curiosity and Wonderment
In this Learning Path participants will explore ways to ignite passion and curiosity in their students through personalizing their experiences. Participants will explore how they can ignite learning through crafting powerful questions, learn strategies to encourage academic conversations, and explore ways in which awe deepens student learning.
